Missions Evangelist Tours South-East Churches

Paul Ede (Benin), Wasiu Ajao (Warri) and John Obaje (Islands region, Lagos)

A 13 day missionary visit to the South-East Nigerian Churches aimed at inspiring, strengthening, encouraging and re-positioning the Churches for maturity, stability, growth and expansion was embarked by the lead evangelist of the Lagos Church, Evangelist Chris Ogbonnaya and the Church’s Financial Administrator, Mr. Sam Onuoha. Churches visited by the pair include the Port Harcourt, Calabar, Asaba, Benin and Warri.

Port Harcourt
Lead couple: Wale & Olaoluwa Oni

With attendance averaging 65 weekly and two Seed fellowship in Yenegoa in Bayelsa state and Owerri in Imo state, the Port Harcourt church with its demography cutting across old, young ,teens, was the second to be visited. Planted in 1999, the members have a high level of zeal for evangelism and appetite for conversion and growth. There is a feel of sense of family within the congregation. The Church also has done very well with developing their facility. They have built their main Church building and are currently building the Children ministry. The Finance Committee and the Leadership Group are well constituted and functional and the church enjoys a sound financial stability.

 

The Calabar Church
Lead couple: Jide & Tunrayo Elugbadebo

The Calabar Church was planted in 1999 with a membership of 40 disciples and averages 68 in attendance weekly with 4 bible talks spread across the city reputed as the ‘cleanliest in Nigeria.’ The Church supports a very enthusiastic Seed fellowship in the neighbouring town of Uyo in Akwa Ibom state. The Uyo Seed Fellowship under the leadership of a medical doctor Dr.Enyenihi seems very happy, upbeat and focused and has an ambitious goal to grow to 100. The Church has a properly constituted Leadership Group and Finance Committee and there is good relationship amongst the leaders as well as across the congregation.

The Asaba Church
Lead couple: Lucky & Ngozi Orumwense

The Church in Asaba was planted in 1999 and averages 55 in attendances weekly. The Church presently has 27 disciples. There is a very cordial working relationship between the Warri Church and the Asaba Church. Constant visits and interactions between these two leaders have helped in stabilizing the Asaba Church. The discipling relationship within the church is producing a strong bonding that is evident amongst the congregants. They need us all to join them in prayers to secure a new and better worship facility and to develop their already fenced plots of land.

 

The Benin Church
Lead couple: Paul & Bernice Ede

Planted in 1999 and averaging 45 in attendance weekly, the Benin Church currently has 5 bible talks within the city. There is the existence of discipling relationship and partnership among the 33 disciples who currently make up the Benin church. Though with a weak financial base, making it difficult to sustain the day to day operations of the church, the disciples are however fired up and full of zeal to do their best for God and His church.

 

The Warri Church
Leader: Wasiu & Martina Ajao

Planted in 1997 in the volatile Niger Delta region of the country, this church currently has 141 disciples with an average weekly attendance of 201 making it the second biggest congregation in Nigeria after Lagos. Across the city spreads 10 bible talks and five family groups. The church also supports a Seed fellowship in Abraka and two missions’ targets in Sapele and Ughelli. There is a high level of zeal for evangelism and appetite for conversion and growth. There is also a sense of family within the congregation and a very vibrant teens ministry. “The local leadership have been very supportive and encouraging to us, making our job easy and joyful”, says the church leader and his wife. The Finance Committee and Leadership Group are properly constituted and functional and the Administrator and the Church leader have very good working relationship. The Church leader and the family seem to be loved and respected across the congregation and the Church finances are very stable and growing. There is a very high level of commitment to giving, serving and sense of mission in this Church. The Church has also built and moved to her new worship facility, though about 60 percent completed.
