Teens ministry suggestions
Raising the spiritual level of the Teens:
- The teen workers must be men and women with passion and deep convictions about God. They need to have a solid spiritual base before they can help the teenagers.
- Teenagers should belong to family groups even though they have a separate teens devotional group they belong
- Every teenager baptized or otherwise should be in a discipling relationship
- The messages in Church should also relate to the teenagers .
- Character studies should be done with the teens
- Quiet time sheets on different themes to meet the needs of the teenagers should be given regularly to help with their quiet times.
- Older more mature teenagers could disciple the younger ones under supervision.
- Every teenager should be encouraged to have a personal Bible and a note book for Church.
- The focus is not only on the Teens that have been baptized but all our teenagers.
Converting the teens:
- The priority is to win the heart of the teens to God.
- No teenager should be cajoled to study the Bible but the teen worker should create the right atmosphere to generate interest on the subject through love, friendship, exemplary lifestyle etc to make the gospel attractive.
- Teenagers should be invited to witness the baptism of others especially other teenagers.
- Teenagers should sit in on the studies of other teenagers and take notes except when confidential issues are being discussed.
- Do not be in a hurry when studying with a teenager, be patient, help bring to life the scriptures.
- Obtain parental consent before commencing the study. Get the parents involved especially if they are disciples but respect the confidentiality of some of the information you will be given. Parents forums should be held periodically.
- Show an interest in other aspects of the teenager’s life not just spiritual such as school, family life etc.
- Spiritual disciples in the singles and Campus Ministries could be involved in studying the Bible with the teens where teen workers are inadequate, but they should be guided on how to handle the teens. Such disciples could also be used to mentor the teens even though they are not in the teens ministry.
- Conversion is a life changing experience; a broken and contrite spirit is what you are looking for. Watch out for character changes.
- Pray and fast for the heart of the teenager you are working with to be turned to God.
Fun /bonding activities:
1) Fun activities should be well planned; the goal is for teens to have fun while learning about God.
2) Teens Service on a yearly basis
3)Bible Quiz
4)Annual activities will include, Teens Rally, Teens Camp, Christmas Party, Talent show, Teens thanksgiving, Carnival etc
5) Teens clubs in every Region/Church.
6)Devotionals should be done in little groups to give room for bonding and giving room to meet the individual needs of the teenagers.
Raising the profile of the teens through serving:
1)Teenagers should be given the chance to be involved in various forms of service in the Church such as ushering, the choir and sound crew.
Every Church leader is encouraged to meet periodically with the Teen workers to encourage and monitor what is going on in the teens Ministry. Accurate records need to be kept , as they move from the preteens to the main service they should be monitored and helped to integrate into the teens ministry .
