The Emir's Palace at Ilorin, Nigeria
Ilorin Celebrates A New Dawn

Oluyinka Balogun delivering a class for the women on how they can live a life of seeeking God
Since its inception in 1991, the Ilorin Church have gone through problems securing a facility for her worship services. These problems have retarded the growth of the Church in no small measures.
God finally came to our rescue this year by helping us secure a befitting hall which can sit as many as 500 people. Apart from its spaciousness, the facility has 8 toilets which includes 4 in the Kids Kingdom arena, though some minor renovations are being carried out.
With the help of the Lagos Church, we are able to pay 3-year rent for the facility and with our special contribution ongoing, we hope to pay for an additional 2 years so that we can take out a lease for 5 years with a further option of purchasing the facility. The facility, apart from its comfort and space, is also strategically situated along one of the major roads leading into the city from other parts of the country.

Dr. Ejide of the UNILORIN teaching hospital enlightening the participants at the Women Breakfast Service on how to achieve a healthy life.
This makes it easily accessible for disciples to locate anytime they visit Ilorin. Recently, the Lead Evangelist of the Nigerian Missions, Chris Ogbonnaya and his wonderful family came over to encourage us and it was really a great time for disciples in Ilorin. And we are looking forward to hosting disciples from all over Nigeria in Ilorin someday so they can help us glorify God's name for the new facility He has blessed us with.
Ilorin Church Plants Offa City Fellowship

cross section of the singles at a workshop recently
It was a historical achievement when the Church Leader and his family went to Offa, a town close to Ilorin, to start the City Fellowship. Two disciples,Bosun and Monday, who are undergraduates at the Federal Polytechnic situated in the town, invited their friends to start studying the bible and right now, we have some students looking forward to be baptized!
We are looking foward to starting fellowships in nearby towns, Ilemona and Erinle (home town of our brother, Wole Adegbola, who slept in the Lord in 2001) by 2008. May God continue to give us strenght and please remember us in your prayers. Romans 15:20
The Church Is Growing
Praise be to our Father in heaven who made it possible for us to wake up from our slumber...Romans 13:11

Children's Day at Ilorin
I was appointed to lead the Church in August 2006 and it's sad how we have gone asleep to the extent that we don't know how to effectively study the bible with people anymore. It was so bad that we forgot how to even get people baptized! But thanks be to God for His Grace and how much He has prodded us into action! He taught us how to wake up from our laziness and by the time we allowed him work through us, we grew in days from 52 to 60 disciples. We refused to stop at that because as disciples, when we wake from our slumber, our zeal and passion for the cause should be evident to all. We have set a goal that we would start next year with 100 disciples in Ilorin praising the works of our faithful God. There are lots of learning and experience in seeking and saving the lost and for us in Ilorin, we have resolved never to go back to our slumber. We want to use this medium for the rest of the Church to continue to pray for us to be united, have brotherly love and for the fear of God.

ILORIN
city, traditional emirate, and capital of Kwara State , central
Nigeria , on the Awun River , a minor tributary of the Niger . Founded in the late 18th century by Yoruba people, it became the capital of a kingdom that was a vassal state of the Oyo Empire. Oyo's commander at Ilorin , Kakanfo (Field Marshal) Afonja, led a rebellion in 1817 that destroyed the unity of the empire. He was aided by Mallam Alimi (a Fulani from Sokoto), by Fulani warriors and slaves, and by Hausa slaves. Afonja was increasingly dominated by the Muslim Fulani, and, upon his assassination, Alimi's son, Abd as-Salam (Abdul Salami), became emir of Ilorin and pledged allegiance (c. 1829) to the Sokoto caliphate. As a Muslim emirate, Ilorin subjugated several towns in Yorubaland and destroyed Oyo Ile (Old Oyo, or Katunga), 40 mi (64km) northwest, the Oyo capital, in 1837. Abd as-Salam conducted a jih(d (“holy war”) toward the sea and was only stopped by the Ibadan victory over his cavalrymen at Oshogbo in 1840.
Throughout the 19th century, Ilorin served as a major trade centre between the Hausa of the north and the Yoruba of the south. It strongly resisted British rule, and not until 1897, when the army of the Royal Niger Company arrived after conquering Bida (106 mi east-northeast), did Ilorin recognize British supremacy. In 1900 Ilorin emirate was the only part of Yorubaland to be included in the Northern Nigeria Protectorate. Ilorin 's administrative association with the north continued until the creation of Kwara State in 1967.
Modern Ilorin is mainly inhabited by Muslim Yoruba people, although its traditional ruler is a Yoruba-speaking Fulani emir. It is the headquarters of the Ilorin Local Government Council. Surrounding the historic central district with its traditional single-story red-mud houses with thatched straw roofs and numerous mosques, all protected by a mud wall, the modern city is an industrial, commercial, and educational centre. It is a major market for locally raised crops (yams, cassava, corn [maize], sorghum, millet, rice, peppers, peanuts [groundnuts], shea nuts, kola nuts, cotton) and cattle, hides, and poultry. Local handicrafts include pottery making, wood carving, leather working, cloth weaving, and mat and basket weaving. The growing industrial sector now includes sugar refining, food processing, soft-drink bottling, match and soap manufacturing, and iron-working. There are several banks and insurance companies that serve the city and state.
The city is the site of the University College of Ilorin and Kwara State College of Technology, which also contains the headquarters of the Nigerian Library Association. The Federal Agricultural and Rural Management Institute, which operates a research farm, is located in the city. Teacher-training colleges and a vocational trade school also serve Ilorin . Health services include a number of government, private, and religious hospitals and a nursing home for the elderly.
Ilorin is served by the railway and highway from Lagos (160 mi south-southwest), via Ibadan , which intersect in the city, and it has an international airport. Pop. (1991 est.) city, 420,000. |
