Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is the Church a pentecostal church?
A. The International Church of Christ is a church of Christians practising Christianity according to the Bible. We are neither pentecostal nor do we belong to any other grouping. We are just Christians.

Q. Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?
A. We believe that without the indwelling Holy Spirit, one cannot belong to Christ (Rom. 8:9). We are of Christ because we believe that the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Hence, we are Christians.

Q. How do I receive the Holy Spirit?
A. We preach that one must repent and be baptised for the forgiveness of sins and the reception of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).

Q. Do you believe in 'speaking in tongues'?
A. Tongue speaking as a miraculous gift of the Holy Spirit ought to be desired. However, the purpose of the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit was for the confirmation of the spoken word (Mk. 16:20; Heb. 2:3-4; Acts 2:1-41). Today, that purpose has been fulfilled since the word has been written so that we may believe (John 20:30). Obedience of the word is of greater importance. Jesus, himself, deemphasised miracles but emphasised obedience of the word (Lk. 16:19-31; Jn. 12:47-48).

Q. Who's the founder of the church?
A. Jesus (Col. 1:18)

Q. Where is your headquarters?
A. As a 'loose' family of churches, we have no administrative headquarters. In Africa, however, we do have administrative offices that assist regional groupings of churches with clerical work. The administrative office for the Nigerian churches is in Lagos.
